European-Style Central Heating Solutions in Auckland

What Is Central Heating?

As the name suggests, central heating uses one main heat source—such as a gas boiler or heat pump—to distribute warmth evenly throughout your home. These systems can also supply domestic hot water, making them a complete heating solution.

Unlike traditional space heaters, central heating maintains a stable indoor temperature across all rooms, eliminating cold spots and temperature swings. It’s a long-term investment in comfort and efficiency.

Why Choose Hydronic Central Heating?

At Euro Plumbing, we specialise in hydronic central heating—a system that delivers warmth by circulating hot water through pipes to radiators or underfloor heating. This approach provides several key advantages:

  • Exceptionally quiet and clean: No noisy air blowers and minimal dust circulation.

  • Superior energy efficiency: Consumes less energy than typical heat pump-based systems.

  • Healthier indoor environment: Promotes better air quality for your family.

  • Cost-effective operation: Low running costs and minimal maintenance requirements.

Unlike standard heat pump systems, hydronic heating sets a new standard for comfort, performance, and long-term savings in your home.

Smart, Efficient Heating for Modern Homes

Central heating provides whole-home warmth by distributing heat evenly through your living spaces—using either water or air as the medium. At Euro Plumbing, we specialise in hydronic heating systems, delivering customised solutions powered by today’s most efficient and reliable technologies.

1. Choosing the Right Heat Source

Selecting the ideal heat source depends on your home’s design, energy preferences, and long-term goals. Our experts will guide you to the best system that balances comfort, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.

Common Heat Source Options:

  • Gas Boilers (Condensing & Non-Condensing):
Perfect for fast, consistent heating. Available in system and combination boilers ranging from 18kW to 150kW, some models also heat domestic water with up to 150% energy efficiency.

  • Hydronic Heat Pumps:
Energy-saving solutions that can supply both central heating and hot water. Choose from localised units or ducted systems. Euro Plumbing specialises in hydronic heat pump installations tailored to your needs.

  • Oil & Diesel Systems:
Favoured in rural or off-grid locations, these systems provide reliable heating for both space and water.

  • Wetback Open Fires:
Combine traditional aesthetics with practical heating power. Ideal when paired with radiators or underfloor heating for a hybrid system.

Types of Central Heating Systems in New Zealand

At Euro Plumbing, we design and install a variety of central heating systems tailored to your specific needs. The main types of systems commonly used in New Zealand include:

1. Open System

An open system is vented to the atmosphere and supplied with make-up water from a feed and expansion tank. This design allows excess pressure to be released safely into the open air, making it a straightforward and traditional heating solution.

2. Closed System

A closed system is sealed and not vented to the atmosphere. It manages water expansion using an air bladder expansion tank and controls overpressure with a relief valve. Make-up water is supplied through a pressure-reducing valve, and backflow protection is essential if a permanent connection is made to the water supply.

3. Gravity System

This system relies on thermosiphonic forces to circulate hot water naturally. Hot water rises and moves through the system while cooler water returns to the heat source by gravity, eliminating the need for pumps.

4. Forced System

In a forced system, a pump actively circulates hot water through the heating circuit, then returns it to the heat source. This method provides more consistent heating and greater control over water flow.

Each system has its advantages depending on your home’s layout, heating requirements, and preferences. Contact Euro Plumbing for expert advice and customised central heating solutions.
